    Unless you are getting recognised for the wrong thing. Hey, there goes that guy who drank his body weight at the last conference threw up on our innovation award.

    Competition seems to work well in online forums that display top posters or allocate points and levels to frequent posters. I think this is a good lesson for the enterprise - how do you get people to participate and how do you aggregate and display the sum of their contributions?

    You make a good point. Transparency can backfire too. But remove anonymity and the likelihood of “crap” being visible decreases.
